Fitness Frankie's Weekend with Ms. P!

Hi everyone,

Mrs. R. is letting me go home with the adults at North Park during May because May 1-7 is National Physical Education and Sport Week and we do a special project called "Operation Healthy North Park" during the whole month of May! Ms. P took me home with her this past weekend and I had a wonderful time! Mrs. R. is going to put up some pictures soon! I started my Friday evening off by gardening around the house. I got to ride in a wheelbarrow! On Saturday afternoon I visited Mills Mansion! It is a great historical estate! While I was visiting Mills Mansion I decided to get my daily exercise by walking up the hill to visit the mansion. It was a great walk but a big hill! After walking up the hill I decided to cool down by the Hudson River. Next time I visit Mills Mansion, I would like to go swimming! On Sunday afternoon, I spent some time riding a bicycle with my new friend Suzie Bear. Suzie Bear and I also played a game of catch! During the weekend I also ate some healthy snacks. I age mangos, oranges and a pineapple! Ms. P. took such good care of me! I had an awesome time! This week I am being taken care of by Mrs B's class! My adventure continues! I LOVE Healthy Highway! Fitness Frankie's Adventures in Ms. P's Class!

I spent the week in Ms. P’s and Ms. M's class. I had a blast! When I arrived on Monday they were getting ready to start their Writing activities. The second graders were starting a research project on a book of their choice. They welcomed me into their Writing group and I was able to pick a book I was interested in learning about. I chose to research Motorcycles, since I already know a lot about cars. I found out that a sport bike is a motorcycle built to race!

On Tuesday I continued more Writing and participated in spelling activities with both the second and third graders. During Math, I learned about different types of triangles with the third graders.

When Wednesday arrived, I was waiting in their classroom and ready to learn some more! I learned all about multiplication. I know that if I have two rows of seat in my race car and there are 2 people sitting in each row, I will have a total of total of 4 people sitting in my race car! Multiplying is so much fun! I almost forgot to tell you all the wonderful, healthy foods I ate. I had apple sauce, strawberries, yogurt and bananas. I drank lots of water throughout the day.

Thursday was tons of fun. Even though it was a half-day, I worked really hard and finished my rough draft about Motorcycles. I was filled with joy when I participated in Musical Chair Spelling. When it was time for my friends to leave, Ms. Palermo decided to finish the last song that was playing. I got a lot of exercise singing and dancing to the rest of the song.

Fitness Friday is one of my favorite days of the week. Friday began with a trip to the cafeteria for the Healthy Highway Assembly. During the assembly all my friends exercised to the Life is a Highway song. Boy was I pumped! I ended my fitness Friday fun by gardening in the North Park Gardens. Fitness Frankie's Adventures During Spring Recess!

Hi Everyone,

Last week school was closed for Spring Recess, but our office staff still work very hard while the students and teachers are on vacation so Mrs. P. and Mrs. F. offered to take care of me. They are so nice! I had an amazing week! I had a visit from my friend, "Exercise Ernie" who is from Colorado. The first thing that I did was show Exercise Ernie the Gymnasium where I first met the kids and where we spend time exercising and staying fit. On Monday, I went skateboarding on the sidewalk. It is important to be careful when you skateboard, but it can be a lot of fun! That's me and Exercise Ernie in the picture! Exercise Ernie is from Colorado where the Rocky Mountains are located, so he knows how to snow ski, but I introduced him to water skiing! On Tuesday, it rained (an indoor recess type day) so I helped Mr. Lang with some tasks around the school. He worked by buffing the lobby floors and I helped to change a light bulb on the stage. Working around the house or school can also be considered exercise! Since I had a friend visiting I chose activities that can include two people. We played tennis, went on the swings, and played hopscotch together! On Wellness Wednesday, I shared an apple, banana, carrots, and rice cakes with my friend Exercise Ernie. Fruits are very nutritious and fill you up! Exercise Ernie is familiar with rock climbing so he showed me how to rock climb! We had a great time and rock climbing is a great way to exercise! Exercise Ernie and I also had time to relax, which is just as important to maintaining your health. We went to the baseball field and watched a little league baseball game. Exercise Ernie enjoyed his visit so much at North Park that he is looking forward to visiting again when the students are in school! I told him that I LOVE Healthy Highway and he said that he LOVES it too! I can't wait till Exercise Ernie comes back to visit! Love, Fitness Frankie

Fitness Frankie's Adventures with Mrs E's Class!

Hi everyone,

I had a great week in Mrs. E's class! On the very first day one of my friends made me a sleeping bag so that I could be comfy and warm at night! After a busy day at North Park I definitely need a good night's sleep! My friends fed me healthy snacks for Wellness Wednesday! We ate Jello, trailmix, apples, blueberries, grapes, cantelope, and even salad! I went to PE with my friends too! They use pedometers in PE. My friends tell me that pedometers count your steps when you exercise! My friends were playing a great game where basketball shooting, passing, and dribbling are all important! In the game, if someone makes a basket, they are allowed to take a bowling pin from the other team's hoop! The object is to get all of the bowling pins before the other team gets yours! It was great fun! That's me in the pictures with the pedometers and the basketball equipment! I exercised with my friends on Fitness Friday! We played "Follow the Leader" around the classroom! We did the Cha Cha, we jogged, and we did the Monster Stomp. It was fun because I was always the leader! This week I am in Mrs. P's class! I LOVE Healthy Highway! Love, Fitness Frankie.

Fitness Frankie Attends North Park's Production of Charlotte's Web!

Hi everyone!

I had a great week at North Park! Of course, I ALWAYS have a great time with my friends at North Park! This was a special week because it was time for my friends to perform Charlotte's Web! Everyone has been working SO hard for many months! Mrs. H., the director is so talented and it shows in the production! The sets are great too! Mrs. S., our art teacher, Mrs. H., and many others worked hard on the sets, props, costumes, make-up, and more! I got to go to the opening performance! That's me sitting on one of the t-shirts for sale! Mrs. D. took good care of me during the performance because Mrs. R. was taking pictures! I am so proud of everyone! Charlotte, Fern, Avery, all the animals and families in the play were great friends to Wilbur, just like my North Park friends are to me! I spent the week in Mrs. E's class and they are going to add to my blog soon! I LOVE North Park and Healthy Highway! Love, Fitness Frankie.

Fitness Frankie's Adventures with Mr. P's Class!

Hi everyone,

I had a great week in Mr. P.'s class! It was such a busy week! My friends fed me yogurt, carrots, mandarin oranges and trail mix. On Monday afternoon I looked over some cool Civil War projects in the two 5th grade classrooms. On Tuesday we studied the skeletal system. I found out that your bones need calcium and Vitamin D to stay strong and healthy! On Wednesday we got to practice getting out of a bus that was turned over. All the kids at school did a great job helping each other. On Thursday I helped Mrs. B. check in some homework. After school she took me to Adam's (that's a store) to get some fresh vegetables! Friday was a blast! All the students and teachers did an awesome job jumping at the Jump Show! The pictures above are from the 2011 Jump Show! The monkey is my friend Bono from Ms. F.'s class. Bono and I got to be in the show!!!!! We jumped rope with Ms. F. and Mrs. R.!This was a celebration of everyone's hard work to make Jump Rope for Heart a success. Mrs. R. explained that we raised $2,521.85 this year and $21,017.10 since we started Jump Rope for Heart six years ago! I really liked the story about the anonymous donation, by a student, for .36 cents........ This past weekend I went to a soccer game and walked on the rail trail in Highland. I had a blast in Mr. P'.s class and this week I will be taken care of by Mrs. E.'s class! I LOVE Healthy Highway! Love, Fitness Frankie.

Fitness Frankie's Adventures with Ms. Fs Class!

Hi everyone,

I spent the week in Ms. F's class. We had all kinds of yummy food for Wellness Wednesday. We ate granola bars, apples, oranges, strawberries, and grapes! We exercised on Fitness Friday too. I even did front and back flips with one of my friends in the class! I got to attend morning meeting, PE classes, and even went to technology and learned touch typing! I bet you didn't think that bears could type! I also had my own math center, (Fitness Frankie's Fast Facts) which earned Ms. F's class extra recess time!

When I went to PE, my friends were learning about balance. I learned that when something is balanced, it does not fall! I tried a few of the activities! In the pictures, I am balancing on a noodle and a see saw rocker! It was fun! I also found out that my library book is due back to the library........I may need some help returning it, but I am sure that my new friends will help me! Friday was April 1st - April Fool's Day! My friends played a trick on Mrs. R! They told her that I was lost and then another student brought me in to the gym! Mrs. R was worried! (I wasn't.....everyone takes such good care of me here!) I had a great week in Ms. F's class! I am sure my upcoming week with Mr. P's class will be just as exciting! I LOVE Healthy Highway! Love, Fitness Frankie
